Cambodian officials have said numerous reports of human rights abuses ahead of Obama’s visit were meant to discredit the government.
President Obama arrived in Cambodia late on Monday for the annual ASEAN [Association of Southeast Asia Nations] and East Asia meetings. He met with Cambodian Premier Hun Sen and held what was described as a ‘tense’ discussion about human rights. While the government said Cambodia was being ‘framed’ by such exaggerated concerns, police forces kept demonstrators far from the scene. Say Mony reports from Phnom Penh.

Cambodian university students say they are very proud at the news that the U.S. President is visiting their country for the first time. President Barack Obama will arrive in Cambodia on Monday afternoon. He will attend the US-ASEAN summit and the East Asia Summit but does not have plan to speak to university students.
