UN: Peace Brings Economic Growth to Cambodia


Economy in Cambodia grew by 9.5 per cent last year, due to political stability after three decades of civil war, said UN’s Douglas Gardner.

The United Nations Development Program Representative’s comment was made at the quarterly meeting yesterday in Phnom Penh.

The economic performance followed a record 13.4 per cent growth in Cambodia's gross domestic product in 2005. The UN also contributes the growth to the country’s booming tourism and rising garment exports industries.

According to the Economic Institute of Cambodia, its estimated that the country's gross domestic product at $6.5 billion dollars last year.
