Cambodia Says It Takes Terrorist Threats Seriously

Cambodian officials say they are looking for suspected terrorists who threatened to attack Australia, Canada, the US and other embassies , but claims these are nothing more than just threats.

The threats that prompted officials to tighten security around foreign embassies in Phnom Penh came via e-mails to foreign embassies in April.

Interior Ministry's spokesman General Ek Sopheak confirmed the existence of such e-mails and said the Interior Ministry had asked the police high commissioner to investigate the threats immediately.

General Ek said he is confident that the e-mails can be traced and that the person(s) responsible will be brought to justice.

Cambodian police said although there is no immidiate threat of terrorist attacks at this time, Cambodia continues to investigate terrorist threats.
