Opposition officials say they want to visit a prison facility in Kampong Cham province, where 23 workers have been detained since demonstration crackdowns in early January.

But rights workers say the prison facility was battened down ahead of the visit, and opposition officials were not allowed to enter.

Son Chhay, a member of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party, said he and other delegates will continue to look for a way to visit the detainees, whose detention has been the focus of recent demonstrations by opposition supporters and labor activists.

Kuy Bun Sorn, director of the Ministry of Interior’s prison department, said the Rescue Party delegation was not allowed to visit because members are not relatives of the detainees.
