Mao Monivann, a parliamentarian for the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party, says he has not received a response from top government officials on whether they are addressing the construction of a road from Vietnam into Mondolkiri province.
Mao Monivann claims 50 kilometers of road have been built into the province, in northeastern Cambodia and has requested an explanation from Prime Minister Hun Sen.
His request is being reviewed by a team under the premier, he said Thursday. “The expert team is studying to explain and clarify my questions to Prime Minister Hun Sen,” he said.
Government spokesman Phay Siphan said the borders are still being decided on and demarcated with Vietnam. The border issue is not “political,” he said, but rather technical. “Both countries have agreed to allow working teams demarcate and locate demarcations,” he said.
Border officials have said in the past they hope to have major meetings by the end of the year with Vietnamese counterparts to move toward full demarcation.
