Elizabeth Becker, an author and former correspondent for the Washington Post, will testify in front of the Khmer Rouge tribunal next week.

Becker was one of the few journalists allowed into Cambodia following the takeover of the Khmer Rouge.

She has since written extensively about the regime, and her testimony is expected to help prosecutors describe the its operations from a different perspective, as the UN-backed court continues the trials of aging leaders Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan.

“She was one who arrived in Cambodia when the Khmer Rouge was in power,” Chhang Youk, executive director of the Documentation Center of Cambodia, said. “And I think that it adds more weight to the whole case, because she concretely saw [the regime] and she came to Phnom Penh.”

Becker is scheduled to appear before the court on Feb. 9.
