Cambodia International Film Festival Aims to Highlights Khmer Works

WASHINGTON DC - Organizers of the fourth annual Cambodia International Film Festival want to highlight the accomplishments of Cambodian movies after many years of war and destruction.

Speaking to VOA Khmer from Phnom Penh via Skype, Kim Sophea, the main organizer of the film festival, says one of the goals is to showcase the works of Cambodians.

“We want to show the accomplishments of Khmer filmmakers to the world during this annual international film festival,” she said.

The festival also seeks to foster conversation between Cambodian and international filmmakers in order to help improve the quality of Cambodian films.

The festival will run from Dec. 7 to Dec. 12 at various venues in Phnom Penh, including Legend Cinema and Platinum Cineplex.

During the six-day festival, 69 movies from 19 countries will be screened, including from China, France, India and the US.

The event if free and sponsored by a variety of organizations, including the French Institute and the Bosphana Center, as well as foreign embassies, including those of India and South Korea.
