Prime Minister Hun Sen Plans to Help Farmers - 2004-11-08

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen is asking the Ministry of Economy and Finance to cut unnecessary expenses in government ministries and institutions to help farmers who are facing drought.

Speaking at a ceremony to commemorate the Cambodian independence day Monday, Mr. Hun Sen urged Cambodian people, businessmen and monks to help out any way they can.

Opposition party member Mr. Eng Chhay Eang said the prime minister's appeal is not enough.

Mr. Eng said if Mr. Hun Sen is truly concerned about the drought, he should combat corruption and the illegal logging of Cambodian's forests which are the real causes of drought in Cambodia.
