King Sihanouk Plans to Return Home in October if Deadlock is Resolved - 2004-06-21

Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk said he wants to return to Cambodia in October or November if the political deadlock is resolved.

In a letter from Pyongyang, North Korea, King Sihanouk said he wants to return in time to celebrate his birthday and other important holidays.

The King said he is confident the political parties can end the deadlock before October.

Opposition Party president Sam Rainsy said all three political parties should jointly invite the king to help solve the deadlock.

He said that way the king won't feel he's interfering with Cambodian politics.

CPP spokesman Khieu Kanharith said the reason the King stays away from Cambodia was because of Mr. Sam Rainsy.
