One day after the meeting between Prime Minister Hun Sen and Prince Norodom Ranariddh at the Prince's residence, the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia issued the following statement:
"We haven't seen the details yet of what was discussed in the meeting, but we believe the Cambodian leaders continue to work out arrangements among themselves...We don't want to prejudge the outcome. However,... we welcome efforts of the political leaders to overcome the political deadlock and produce a representative government based on the results of the July 27 national elections... It is premature to make a determination on any changes of U.S. assistance in Cambodia."
