UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday warned Thailand and Cambodia to exercise restraint and pursue bilateral solutions, following border clashes that left three Cambodian soldiers dead.
“He calls on both parties to exercise utmost restraint and
urges them to expedite bilateral talks so that their differences can be
resolved peacefully,” UN spokeswoman Choi Sung-ah told VOA Khmer.
After Wednesday’s rocket and gunfire attacks, the Cambodian Foreign Ministry warned Thailand that further “provocations” could lead to “large scale” conflict.
Commanders from both sides were negotiating on the Thai side of the border, near Preah Vihear temple, Thursday.
