Cambodian Ambassador Visits Golden State

Cambodian Ambassador to the US Ek Sereywath, along with ambassadors representing 41 countries from around the world, toured the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in California last week as part of an outreach program to learn more about the US.

"The Reagan Library tour was one of the stops in California for the ambassadors stationed at embassies in Washington, DC, who wanted to learn more about American life by traveling outside the nation's capital on educational and cultural tours" Ek Sereywath said in the interview with VOA Khmer. "The trips are organized to provide concrete examples of flourishing businesses and technology."

"I'm very excited to see the Buddha statue made of silver and wood that [former] ing Norodom Sihanouk gave to president Reagan," Ek Sereywath said.

From June 23 to June 28, the ambassadors, who toured UCLA Medical Center, also traveled to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the California Institute of Technology, Silicon Valley and the Golden Gate National Park in San Francisco, among many other stops in California, nicknamed the Golden State.

Ek Sereywath also met with George Shultz, who served as the 60th US secretary of state, under Reagan, and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. Shultz will travel to Cambodia next month to visit the temples of Angkor Wat, and Newsom will spend an upcoming honeymoon visiting the temples.
