Malaysia’s monarch, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, began a three-day visit to Cambodia Wednesday, where he was scheduled to meet King Norodom Sihamoni and top political leaders.
King Sihamoni held a royal welcoming ceremony for the sultan at the Royal Palace.
The sultan’s visit was important for strengthening the “bond of friendship” between the two countries, a Foreign Ministery spokesman said.
Sultan Mizan met separately with Senate President Chea Sim, National Assembly President Heng Samrin and Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Malaysian companies provided around $241 million in investment in 2007, according to the Council for Development of Cambodia. The sultan is expected to meet with some of Malaysian’s business leaders during his visit.
