The Khmer Kampuchea Krom Buddhist Monk Association on Tuesday accused a Vietnamese radio station of broadcasting false information about defrocked monk Tim Sakhron.
The monk association demanded the station be more accurate and professional in its work, after the station, Can Tho Radio, said Tim Sakhorn entered Vietnam illegally and lived as a monk in Cambodia.
Tim Sakhorn is being held in Vietnam on charges he entered the country illegally, following a defrocking in Cambodia and an ejection from the country that rights groups fear was forced.
The monk association denied the veracity of the radio broadcast in a statement issued Tuesday.
Can Tho Radio has not issued a response to the group.
The monk association also urged the Vietnamese government to return Tim Sakhorn to Cambodia without conditions.
