Poor residents in the capital facing evictions as the city develops joined a public forum Thursday to air their concerns.
A group of NGOs hosted the forum, for residents who say they are scheduled for eviction and will join hundreds of other families who have met the same fate in Phnom Penh's rush to build.
Phnom Penh Governor Man Chhoeun, who attended Thursday's forum, said the city would negotiate with those people facing displacement. He said certain residents, like those of the Borei Keila area of Phnom Penh, had been moved and were happy.
"We will continue negotiations," he said. "Like in Borei Keila, we came to an agreement, and now they live in new dwellings and they are happy."
