The Khmer Kampuchea Krom Association and the Sam Rainsy Party Saturday condemned the violence that ensued between two groups of monks in protests Friday.
Separate press releases said the clashes between Kampuchea Krom monks and another group of Cambodian monks should be considered an abuse of religious freedom.
The two groups clashed outside Wat Ounalom Friday morning, the Cambodia Daily reported Saturday.
The Kampuchea Krom monks had been protesting the alleged rights abuses of fellow monks and others in Vietnam by authorities there.
"Using violence the wrong way against human rights and the expression of opinion is a violation on human rights," Sam Rainsy Party Secretary-General Mu Sochua said. "More seriously, using force to destroy what is culture, the religion of the Khmer people, Buddhism. SRP condemns this action."
