Colts are Superbowl champions

The Indianapolis Colts have won Super Bowl XLI (41), defeating the Chicago Bears, 29-17, in Miami, Florida.

Playing in a steady rain Sunday at Dolphin Stadium, it was the Bears who struck first in the National Football League championship game. Chicago's Devon Hestor ran 92 yards for a touchdown on the opening kickoff.

The Colts came back as quarterback Peyton Manning threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Wayne. Indianapolis added a touchdown by running back Dominic Rhodes and three field goals by Adam Vinatieri.

The Bears came into the Super Bowl with the NFL's top rated defense while Indianapolis had the best offense. The Colts had the worst run defense in the league during the regular season. But it was the Indianapolis defense that sealed the win. Kelvin Hayden intercepted Chicago quarterback Rex Grossman in the final period and ran 56 yards for a touchdown.

The Colts franchise now has two Super Bowl titles, having previously won the championship in Super Bowl V (5)(as the Baltimore Colts). Chicago falls to a 1-1 Super Bowl record. The win makes Indianapolis coach Tony Dungy (DUHN-jee) the first African American to capture a Super Bowl title. He is the third person to win a Super Bowl as a player and a coach (following Tom Flores and Mike Ditka).

The game was watched by millions of fans in the United States, and followed by a global audience.
