AD HOC’s Reports Indicate Violence in Election Campaign

AD HOC Commission Wednesday charges Cambodian People Party's (CPP) officials for repeatedly making murder or violence related threats against members or activists, from opposition parties.

The accusations followed by constant intimidation tactics used by the CPP on Sam Rainsy party's (SRP) and Norodom Ranariddh party’s (NRP) activists in the past months. The complaints usually consisted of verbal harassment, physical injury and murder attempt, allegedly by CPP local officials.

At a conference, ADHOC’s chief of investigation Ny Chariya tell reporters that a similar incidence has occurred in Ponhea Krek, Kampong Cham, where police officials killed an identified man, a member of SRP, in a local shop.

According to ADHOC’s 2006 report, “a total of 24 party members have received threats, which includes, 15 (threats) against SRP, 7 against NRP, and 2 against Funcinpec party”, he added.

Ministry of Interior spokesman Khieu Sopheak denied the charges.
