Bill Clinton to Visit Cambodia

On Monday, Prime Minister Hun Sen tells reporters that former U.S. President Bill Clinton plans to make an official visit to Cambodia in early December.

U.S. Embassy officials in Phnom Penh say Bill Clinton will leave the United States on November 30 for his Asia tour, which will take him to Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Government spokesman Khieu Kanharith says that while in Cambodia, the former President will meet with two United Nations agencies to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU).

“Mr. Clinton will congratulate a number of government officials who will be receiving award of honors”, Khieu Kanharith added.

This will be Mr. Clinton’s first visit to Cambodia.

Meanwhile, Cambodia will also welcome Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka, who will visit Cambodia on November 29, to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Cambodia has pledged to join forces with Sri Lanka to stop illegal weapons supplied by Tamil Tiger, a military organization that has been waging a secessionist campaign against the Sri Lankan government since the 1970s.
