Two Sam Rainsy Party activists attacked in Srok Kamchay Mear Prey Veng province, according to local police and opposition party.
Five unidentified men reportedly attacked the two men with an ax while they were drinking at a local joint.
Police says the motive of the attack is unclear but says that it could stem from personal dispute without giving any further details.
The police says it has arrested one suspect and is continuing with the investigation.
However the official from the Sam Rainsy party said the motive is purely political because one of the victims is just recently nominated by the party to be the member of the candidate for the commune.
