The Phnom Penh Municipal court has issued arrest warrants for at least 5 police officials Wednesday on suspecting charges of involving in a case, with the intention to kill Koh Santephiep newspaper editor 8 years ago.
The editor accused former police commissioner Heng Pov of being a mastermind behind this plot. Mr. Heng Pov is being searched for some crimes.
The charge was made one day after Koh Santephiep editor was summoned by the Phnom Penh court to appear in a deposition about his suit against Mr. Heng Pov whom he charged of being behind the shooting, causing injuries in 1998, while he participated in a ceremony.
The suspects have not been identified in full but it is believed that one of them is police economy unit chief, Heng Veng.
Another police official is, jailed former deputy municipal minor-crime police chief Ly Rasy, serving a 12 year prison term for killing a woman, convicted last week.
Police and court officials only say that there are at least 5 other officials whom the prosecutors and the judges charge them with the intention of murder while under Mr. Heng Pov's supervision.
At the time, Mr. Heng Pov was Ministry of Interior's Secretary of State, and Prime Minister Hun Sen's adviser. Now he is being removed from his positions and is being searched for arrest by the Phnom Penh court.
