On Tuesday, June 27, 2006, Ta Mok’s lawyer Benson Samay says 82 year-old Chhit Choeun known as Ta Mok who has been detained in military court since 1999 is seriously unhealthy of aged and sickness. He cannot walk although he receives regular health care in the prison.
Benson Samay requests the court to allow Ta Mok to be treated outside the prison, but the prison doctor says Ta Mok can be simply treated at the prison.
There is an increasing concern about losing KR trail’s major witnesses who are now aged after the death of former Khmer Rouge’s Minister of Health Chun Choeun.
Ney Thol, director of military court confirms Ta Mok’s unhealthiness, and he will discuss with the doctor whether Ta Mok really needs necessary treatment at the hospital.
Separately, the Documentation Center of Cambodia invited 513 commune councilors to visit the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) headquarters, Chheung Ek museum and Tuol Sleng Museum and meet with MPs. Chhang Youk, director of the Documentation Center of Cambodia, says that commune councilors are local authorities who play an important role in facilitating and encouraging local people to be witnesses for KR tribunal.
