On Wednesday Prime Minister Hun Sen insisted the World Bank to provide secret witnesses who reported about the corruption charges in the World Bank projects in Cambodia.
The request by the premier was made after the bank’s statement released last Sunday refusing to provide more detailed information to protect the sources.
Commander-in-Chiefs of police, military, and military police offer to protect the witnesses.
The premier said the bank tried to hide the witnesses because the bank accused the government without any evidence.
Bou Saroeun, the bank’s press officer said that the bank is not able to provide witness and that what the bank wanted to say was already stated in the statement released on Sunday. The bank would release its further statement in the future.
Opposition party member Son Chhay voiced his opinions that the government’s response to the bank does not benefit anything, but worsens Cambodia’s reputation and that this evidence is enough for the government to carry out the investigation.
Sok Sam Oeun, CDP’s director suggested that the government conduct the investigation by itself when getting information about the corruption from the bank.
