Former King Norodom Sihanouk will return to Cambodia this Friday, after a long absence abroad.
His plan to return to his homeland is welcomed by politicians and civil society organizations alike, saying it might be able to loosen political tensions.
The 84-year old Monarch left Cambodia in July 2005 for Beijing, China for medical treatment, and then continued his trip on to Pyongyang, North Korea.
Last week, in his letter to royal office official Kong Sam Ol, the former King told him that he did not wish the media to cover his return as private and individual.
Despite this wish, Prime Minister Hun Sen says that he has cancelled his functions and is ready to go and greet the former King at the airport.
