King Sihamoni leaves Phnom Penh Monday for a five day state visit to North Korea to strengthen the long-standing friendship betwen the two countries.
This visit occurs more than a year after his reign. North Korea's president invited King Sihamoni to visit his country, after the monarch visited Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam.
Senate's leader Chea Sim, National Assembly's leader Heng Samrin, deputy prime minister Sar Kheng, palace officials,, royal families, and diplimats went to the airport to see the King off.
King Sihamoni's spokesman Um Daravudh told reporters at the airport that the King wants to strengthen the friendship and this trip lasts from April 18-22.
The delegation will return on the 22, but the King will visit his King father Norodom Sihanouk and Queen Monineath until April 28.
