FUNCINPEC president Prince Norodom Ranariddh plans to return to Cambodia after the Cambodian New Year, according to FUNCINPEC's general secretary Nhek Bun Chhay.
Although no date has been set, Nhek Bun Chhay says Ranariddh will return to Cambodia to strengthen the royalist party. The FUNCINPEC president is teaching laws at a private school in Paris for two months.
Prince Ranariddh left Cambodia in early March, a few days after he had resigned from the National Assembly's presidency. His resignation came after two of his party's high ranking officials were removed from the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior co-ministers positions.
Many of the FUNCINPEC high-ranking officials have been reshuffled from the provincial governors positions to that of the Ministry of Interior after the National Assembly adopted the 50% plus one formula to form a government.
Nhek Bun Chhay says that more than 40 provincial deputy governors from FUNCINPEC will be removed from their positions soon, and will later be sent to attend the Royal Administrative School.
FUNCINPEC and the Cambodian People's Party's (CPP) working groups plan to meet Tuesday for the first time since the two parties have differences on the approach to reform.
Government spokesman Khieu Kanharith says this meeting is to strengthen the structure and to explain about the reform in FUNCINPEC.
