Paris-based human rights activist Sean Pengse, director of Cambodia's Border Committee, calls the government's arrest of Mr. Kem Sokha, president of Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) a move making Cambodia changing a regime to a People's Republic of Cambodia.
Mr. Kem Sokha is well known for a democracy advocate. He was arrested and put in Prey Sar prison with the president of Community Legal Education Center Yen Virak for defaming the government.
Ten of thousands of people participate and express their opinions criticizing the government on banners.
Mr. Sean wrote a letter on Sunday calling the arrest a sign of a regime change in Phnom Penh to a Republic regime and comparing it to the Communist Vietnam wanting to silence the opposition, especially the opposition force in Cambodia against border traities between the two countries.
Government spokesman Khieu Kanharith and the Cambodian People Party officials cannot be reached for comment. Ministry of Interior spokesman Khieu Sopheak dismisses Mr. Sean's comment saying the constitution states about a free regime and a multi-party regime in Cambodia and that Prime Minister Hun Sen will lead his nation to development.
Civil societies' officials and political parties officials are quiet.
Opposition party officials call the arrest a sign of authoritarian regime.
