Prime Minister Hun Sen on Monday says that he has informed King Sihamoni about the National Assembly's preparations for its ratification on the Supplemental border treaty which Mr. Hun Sen signed with Vietnam on October 10, after he discusses the treaty many times with Prince Norodom Ranaridh, speaker of the Assembly and leader of Funcinpec party.
He said he has reported to the King. Mr. Hun Sen said this at an inauguration ceremony of a school in Pursat province. Mr. Hun Sen said that his party, the CPP and Funcinpec party cooperated with each other for the stability of Cambodia and the economic development to stop poverty.
He said that his government will not let natural disasters such as flood and drought ruin Cambodia. He did not elaborate about his audience with King Sihamoni.
Mr. Sam Rainsy, leader of opposition Sam Rainsy party, sent a letter to King Sihamoni Friday pleading him not to sign the controversial Supplemental border treaty.
Mr. Son Chhay, opposition Sam Rainsy party legislator said that he is not surprised by by the colation government's position on the controversial border treaty. However he wants Mr. Hun Sen to clarify about the benefits of this treaty to the Khmer people, the opposition party legislators, in the form of documents, which can have influence on the King's decision.
Mr. Kem Sokha, president of Cambodia Center of Human Rights said that Mr. Hun Sen wants the King to sign it but he said that the most important thing is former King Sihanouk. If the former King opposes it, then King Sihamoni might have to reflect on his decision.
Recently former King Sihanouk said that the Supplemental treaty is in violation of the 1991 Paris agreement.
