Government officials dismiss rumors that the government plan to bring charges against a number of journalists for broadcasting interviews and news on border issues.
Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith Friday denied there is any charges pending for any newspepers or radio stations. He said that in the name of minister of information, he will look after journalists.
No one knows the sources of the rumors. Some said they came from the journalists covering the Phnom Penh court while others said they came from the Ministry of Interior. The rumors said two newspapers and foreign radio stations are being charged.
Ministry of Interior spokesman Khieu Sopheak said he was not aware of the rumors. Government's lawyer Duong Leoung cannot be reached for comment.
