The owner of the Chhay Hour II hotel is in jail for illegal weapon and for women trafficking charges.
The 35 year-old Chhay Hour hotel owner, Por Ly, was reportedly arrested Saturday in Koh Kong province by a court order. He is now held in Prey Sar prison.
Por Ly was reportedly hiding in Thailand after police raided his hotel on September 8 and arrested a hotel manager and two females for attempting to sell a 16 year-old girl into the sex trade.
After questioning the three suspects, Phnom Penh investigative judge Kem Ravy reportedly decided to issue an arrest warrant for Por Ly.
Por Ly's attorney said neither his client nor the hotel manager was involved in the charges. The lawyer said his client has the rights to rent rooms to customers and that whatever the customers do does not involve the hotel owner.
The director of information of the Interior Ministry said the hotel owner has the responsibility to know what goes on in his hotel.
If convicted, Por Ly and the others could face a 15 to 20 years jail term.
