A few Buddhist monks and villagers joined in a memorial ceremony at a temple in Muk Kampoul town, Kandal Province, in memory of the royal party who died in a 1997 bloody Coup.
One hundred high officials who died during the coup led to a clash between those loyal to the party's leader, Prince Norodom Ranaridh, and Prime Minister Hun Sen.
High government officials said that they do not wish to mark this anniversary with elaborate ceremony, since FUNCINPEC officials are busy and Prince Ranaridh is abroad. Nhek Bun Chhay, Vice Prime Minister and co Minister of Defense, said that this does not mean that the leaders forgot about the sacrifice of those who died.
