US Ambassador Charles Ray announced in Phnom Penh today that he thinks the e-mail in April threatening the US, Canada and other US allied Western embassies in Phnom Penh might be a hoax.
Mr. Ray alleged that in general these e-mails were sent as a joke, but that the US embassy still considers the e-mails as a possible threat and will not stand by and ignore it.
He said this at a news conference announcing the end of his term as Ambassador to Cambodia in two weeks.
The e-mail was sent to one of the Embassies in Phnom Penh, and the Cambodian authorities strenghted the security and will try to capture the perpetrator.
