The people in Kampong Speu Province found dozens of boxes of 105.mm artillery shells, dated from the 1970’s war, hidden in a pond in Updong town when they were fishing.
Mr. Yin Sovanrith, chief of a checkpoint in Updong, alleged that there are fifteen boxes of thirty shells, dated in 1973, and that the American soldiers dropped the boxes by parachutes during the war in the1970's.
Mr. Khem Sophona, executive of the Organization of Demining of Cambodia, said that he received the information and asked his agent to go and take pictures.
Kampong Speu Province’s Governor Mr. Chath Nalyvuth said that the military police reported the incidence to the armed forces which dispatched someone to look at the shells
