Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong says his country backs Japan's bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
The Cambodian minister, speaking today (Friday) following a meeting in Phnom Penh with his Japanese counterpart, Nobutaka Machimura, said Cambodia has supported Japan's bid for a council seat since 1999, and would continue to do so.
Mr. Machimura also met separately with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. During his visit, the Japanese diplomat signed several agreements providing around 40-million dollars in development aid to Phnom Penh.
Mr. Machimura is currently on a Southeast Asian tour to build support for Tokyo's quest for a security council. He has already visited leaders in Brunei and Vietnam.
Japan is Cambodia's largest aid donor.
