A high-ranking official in charge of the Khmer Rouge tribunal said the tribunal can not proceed if the international community does not help raise extra money to allow Cambodia meet its share of $13.3 million dollars.
Sean Visoth, Executive Secretary of the Royal Task Force on the Khmer Rouge Trials, told VOA that what is important for Cambodia to do at this moment is to campaign for the rest of the $13.3 million dollars.
Cambodian government says it can only afford to contribute $1.3 million dollars to the tribunal.
Cambodian Prime Minister said earlier this week that he will make an official trip to Japan on Sunday May 8 to ask Japan to help meet Cambodia's shortage.
Japan has already pledged US $21.6 million dollars towards the Khmer Rouge tribunal.
