At least four monks and five other people were injured in repeated clashes between demonstrators and police in Phnom Penh Tuesday.

Housing activists were demonstrating against forced evictions in the Boeung Kak neighborhood of the capital, when the clashes began.

Rights workers say about 30 former residents of the neighborhood joined with about 100 monks in demonstrations near Monivong Boulevard, a major thoroughfare in the city.

Witnesses said the clashes ensued after “impolite” remarks from authorities.
