A new band is capturing the attention of Cambodian and international audiences, launching two music videos on Facebook and YouTube.

Members of the TKS Band say they chose to produce their own music, instead of copying from foreign bands.

“The support of our fans gave us more incentive to compose new, original songs and make us work harder to improve our band,” Racheal, the band’s leader singer, told VOA Khmer.

The band expects to produce two more videos soon. The keyboard player, Kagna Kitty, said the band has no immediate plans to cut a CD, however.

“We are waiting to see the implementation of intellectual property rights,” she said. “Right now there are so many illegal copies of music videos in the market. So we are not in a hurry to produce a DVD or CD.”

As of now, the five-member band only performs concerts and appears as special musical guests on television. They are young, and some members are still in school, while others are busy running their own businesses or working. They practice once a week and must settle for older instruments.

Still, with their success on Facebook and YouTube, they have caught the attention of Cambodians overseas. They’ve now been invited to play in the US, Canada, Australia and Poland.
