Lawmakers of the National Assembly’s anti-corruption committee on Friday summoned officials from Transparency International Cambodia, holding a hearing to discuss a recent report on Cambodian corruption.
Following a closed-door session, Ho Vann, a lawmaker for the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party, told reporters the report had found Cambodia’s court system to have some of the country’s worst corruption.
“If we want to break down corruption, we should push for anti-corruption enforcement joined by all relevant institutions,” he said.
Transparency International Cambodia has reported on widespread corruption in both the public and private sectors, including the judiciary, journalism, NGOs and other sectors.
Preap Kol, the group’s president, says Cambodia has started to fight corruption, but lacks the necessary law enforcement.
