Cambodian politicians and analysts consider King Norodom Sihanouk's plan to abdicate as an unusually grave situation.
The King announced his decision to abdicate after receiving letters from many politicians and scholars who are objecting to the Cambodian People's Party's(CPP)-FUNCINPEC Party's plan to use the Block (package) vote to elect the President of the National Assembly and the Prime Minister at the same time, ignoring the King's role in the formation of a new government for Cambodia.
Legal scholars said the Block vote is unconstitutional and undemocratic
