Cambodian labor union members plan to hold a rally in Phnom Penh on Labor Day.
On the eve of the International Labor Day on May 1st, the president of the Cambodian Independent Teacher Association, Mr. Rong Chhun, told VOA that about 600 of the members of his association and of the Free Labor Union of Cambodia (FLUC) plan to hold a rally at the FLUC headquarters near the U.S. Embassy, and organize a parade to make a memorial service at the site where the late FLUC leader Chea Vichea was gunned down earlier this year in broad daylight in the street of Phnom Penh.
The Cambodian government issued a decree banning all Labor Day demonstrations on the streets of the capital to try to avoid any kind of violence, restricting all rallies and meeting to take place only at the factories
