Cambodia Seeks Peaceful End to Border Dispute with Thailand - 2004-04-27

Cambodia pushes to have a peaceful resolution to the border dispute with Thailand, after the month-long of recent escalation of tension nearly turned into open armed confrontation.

Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Co-Minister of Defense, Mr. Sar Kheng, said the crisis in the Poipet area must be resolved peacefully.

The escalation of tension between the Thai military and the Cambodian border police occured when the Cambodian authorities alledged a group of Thai soldiers entered into Cambodia territory early this month, and destroyed a fence built by the people living in that town.
