Cambodia's Minister of Women's and Veterans Affairs, Mrs. Mu Sochua of FUNCINPEC Party, and Member of Parliament, Mrs. Tioulong Saumura of Sam Rainsy Party (SRP), discuss the multitude of problems facing women in their country over our call-in show, Hello VOA.
Mrs. Mu Sochua says Cambodia has two women cabinet ministers in the present government, but her party has only about 20% of women in the leadership ranks. She would like to have at least 30% of women in that capacity as the starting point.
Mrs. Tioulong Saumura says her party is working very hard to educate and encourage women to take an active part in the leadership role. As a result, she says about 25% of women are in that capacity, but much more work needs to be done in the SRP.
