Visit to detained Thai man allowed, officials

Cambodia has allowed consular visits to a Thai national accused of spying, officials said Monday.

The statement was made after allegations that Cambodia has denied access to Siwarak Chothipong, a 31-year-old employee of the Cambodia Air Traffic Service.

“We set time for the [Thai] general consular to visit at 2 p.m. today,” Koy Kuong, foreign ministry spokesman, told VOA Khmer adding that the request was received late Friday last week.

No official from the Thai side is available for comment.

Chothipong was arrested last week on charges of supplying details of fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra's flight schedule to his country's embassy.

However, Thai officials have told media that the information was not “classified”.
