Sihanoukville will receive a second visit by a US naval ship this year, following ten years with none.
The USS Essex is scheduled to port Nov. 26, bringing with it 1,000 crew and 30 helicopters to help with humanitarian work in the town and other provinces.
"Apart from its humanitarian work in Sihanoukville, the helicopters with medical staff can fly all over Cambodia to provide the Cambodian people with medical treatment," US Ambassador Joseph Mussomeli said.
Government spokesman Khieu Kanharith welcomed the arrival of the ship.
The US and Cambodia have enjoyed increasing bilateral cooperation since the lifting of sanctions on direct military aid and other initiatives over the past year.
