Two members of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court unlawfully detained a fraud suspect in a land dispute case, an aid agency said Tuesday.
Kong Bun Thoeun, 37, who was arrested on Aug. 10 for allegedly falsifying public documents, was held without evidence, according to the Cambodia Committee for Law Enforcement for Human Rights.
The Committee has written a complaint to the Ministry of Justice, alleging the courts, and especially two jurists, judge Iv Kim Sri and prosecutor Uk Savuth, violated the rights of the detainee.
Police records do not show sufficient detention evidence, the group said.
"Judge Iv Kim Sri and prosecutor Ouk Savuth agreed to detain him," said Heang Rithy, the Committee's director. "If we talk about being clean, Kong Bun Thoeun is clean and committed no offense…. They made a mistake by using this absolute right of the court."
