The Sam Rainsy Party says Koh Kong military officials have unjustly arrested a party candidate for the upcoming commune elections.
The SRP said in a statement that Lay Saban was arrested after he intervened in an altercation between two military officials and a citizen, who was injured.
A Koh Kong judiciary official said he had not received a report of the incident, but rights groups promised to investigate.
SRP Secretary-Genral Mu Sochua said she suspected that Ly Saban was jailed to intimidate witnesses and activists alike.
