Cambodia Pledges to Stop Weapons Smuggling

Cambodian leaders Thursday condemn the Tamil Tiger secession against the Sri Lankan government, and pledged to join forces with the country to stop illegal weapons supplied by the rebels.

The Sri Lanka government and the Tamil Tiger rebels have been in civil war for over 3 decades and resulted in more than 60,000 deaths.

On Thursday, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake meets with Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Ministry of Council building.

Khieu Kanharith says that Hun Sen understands Sri Lanka's internal problems and wanted to show his support in the government's efforts to pursue a peaceful solution to the conflict.

SRP leader Sam Rainsy tells VOA Khmer that the Cambodian authorities need to do whatever it takes to prevent weapon smugglings from coming into Cambodia.
