U.N. Human Rights Official Arrives in Cambodia

UN human rights official, Louise Arbour arrives in Cambodia Monday evening for a five-day official visit, a first such visit from a UN high commissioner of refugees, allege UN human rights officials in Phnom Penh.

Cambodian high ranking officials greeted her and other 3 officials in Siemreap, their first transit.

The office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees' deputy director Henrik Stenman says that Ms. Arbour stays in Siemreap Monday night and will continue to Phnom Penh.

Ms. Arbour plans to have an audience with King Sihamoni, Prime Minister Hun Sen, deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng, and the office of the Extraordinary Chambers for the Khmer Rouge tribunal.

It is expected that she will meet with other important government officials on the Khmer Rouge trial and the tension between Mr. Hun Sen and special representative for human rights in Cambodia Yash Ghai.
