Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao is visiting Cambodia and arrived there on Friday evening for a first two-day visit, which was seen as a possible use of influence on the Khmer Rouge tribunal.
China has close relation with Cambodia for a long time, especially with former King Norodom Sihanouk who considers China as Cambodia's big friend.
Mr. Wen was welcome at the airport by Prime Minister Hun Sen, and foreign diplomats.
In a statement unofficially translated, Mr. Wen was quoted as saying that he will meet with Senate leader Chea Sim, National Assembly leader Heng Samrin, and Prime Minister Hun Sen. He will also have an audience with King Sihamoni.
Mr. Wen's visit is being translated as focusing on bilateral relation with the two countries and pushing economic cooperation.
He will also try to understand about the economic and social development in Cambodia.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of foreign affairs Hor Nam Hong says that this visit opens a new chapter in history.
