Khmer Front Party Claimed Government Intimidation

The general secretary of the Khmer Front Party (KFP) accused the government of attempting to intimidate the party after it had threatened to carry out a protest Saturday against the rising price of gas and other consumer goods.

Mao Somoeun of KFP said government agents in plain clothes have followed him and his party officials around Phnom Penh after his party had announced that it would carry out a protest this weekend.

Ministry of the Interior spokesman General Khieu Sopheak denied the accusation saying the party is trying to boost its popularity.

The Phnom Penh city hall often denies opposition parties and factory workers, and students group the rights to hold peaceful protest claiming that it wants to protect public safety.
